Both operations are generally safe, but they are major surgery and side effects can happen. Short-term risks include bleeding, infection and, more rarely, a leak. A sleeve can make reflux worse, and after either operation you need daily vitamins and regular follow-up to stay well. Dr Loy will go through the risks of each option with you in full.
